Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI)

Our Mission & History

Our Mission

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of Nevada, Reno, part of the Sanford Center for Aging, is a welcoming, member-driven community where curiosity thrives and connections flourish. Members enjoy meaningful lifelong learning experiences—including educational programs, special and social events, outdoor activities, and opportunities for community engagement—in a stress-free environment, free from tests and grades. OLLI brings people together to learn, connect, explore new interests, and grow. Geared toward adults 50+, our programs celebrate the belief that learning, growth, and connection have no age limit.

Our History

The Bernard Osher Foundation, founded in 1977 and headquartered in San Francisco, is a philanthropic organization dedicated to advancing integrative health care and higher education. The Foundation supports these goals through scholarships and endowments for lifelong learning institutes at colleges and universities nationwide, as well as support for integrative medicine centers and arts organizations.

OLLI at UNR is part of this nationwide network of Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes. Our roots in northern Nevada began in 2007, when the program was established as Elder College through the University of Nevada, Reno Extended Studies program. As the program grew, it became part of the national Osher Lifelong Learning Institute network and evolved into the vibrant lifelong learning community we know today.

Today, OLLI at UNR is part of the Sanford Center for Aging within the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine, connecting lifelong learning with the Center's broader mission to enhance the quality of life and well-being of older adults through education, community engagement, and meaningful connection.
