ABOUT OLLI

Welcome to the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR)! At OLLI, we believe that learning is a lifelong journey, and we’re here to support and enrich that journey through diverse, engaging programs tailored to the interests and passions of our members.

As a member of OLLI at UNR, you’re joining a tradition of curiosity, discovery, and growth that has been nurtured over the years. Our organization was founded on the belief that education and personal development should never stop, no matter your age. This belief is at the core of everything we do, and it continues to inspire our mission today.

OUR HISTORY
The Bernard Osher Foundation, founded in 1977 and headquartered in San Francisco, is a philanthropic organization dedicated to advancing integrative health care and higher education. The Foundation supports these goals by providing scholarships and endowments to lifelong learning institutes at colleges and universities nationwide, including funding for integrative medicine centers at esteemed institutions such as Harvard University, UCSF, and the Karolinska Institute in Sweden. The Foundation also supports the arts, offering grants to organizations like the San Francisco Opera and others in Maine to foster a new generation of classical music and performing arts enthusiasts.

OLLI at UNR is proud to be part of the distinguished network of 125 OLLIs established across all 50 states and the District of Columbia since 2001. Our institute was founded in 2007, originally known as Elder College under UNR’s Extended Studies program. Today, we operate under the Sanford Center for Aging at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine.

OUR MISSION
We aim to enrich the lives of individuals aged 50 and older by providing a diverse array of educational programs, special and social events, outdoor activities, and opportunities for community engagement. OLLI at UNR is a diverse, member-driven community of active, inquisitive individuals committed to exploring new ideas and interests in a welcoming, stress-free environment, free from tests and grades.

We’re excited to have you with us and look forward to the shared experiences and discoveries that lie ahead. Welcome to the OLLI family!
