US Imperialism 1898 - Motivating Factors for Expansion and Conquest
Learn the motivating factors that pushed the United States to acquire and annex foreign territories in 1898. Find out about social/cultural, economic, political, and military reasons for the US expansion into the Caribbean and the Pacific. In 1898, the US acquired Cuba and Puerto Rico as a result of the Spanish/ Cuban/American War, purchased the Philippines from Spain and became bogged down in a bloody conflict with the Filipinos, and annexed Hawaii.
