Join your OLLI friends for a tour of NV Energy’s Tracy Power Plant, located approximately 17 miles east of Sparks on Interstate 80. We will view some of the infrastructure at the plant, as well as discuss the respective roles of fossil fuel, solar and geothermal power production in meeting the increasing demand for electricity. Attendees must provide their own transportation to the tour site.
The Frank A. Tracy Generating Station is a multi-technology, clean burning natural gas-fueled power plant complex. The plant includes eight individual generating units with in-service dates ranging from 1974 to 2008. The original two generating units, which have been shut down and are in the process of being dismantled, were completed in 1963 and 1965. TOUR SIGN-UP REQUIRED: Mark your calendars. The tour sign-ups will open on May 2 and close on May 8. Each tour is limited to 20 OLLI members. A lottery will be held to fill available slots if demand exceeds availability. To sign up, log in to your member account, then return to the tour page to complete the sign-up process. You may register for only one of the two available tour times: 10 am – 12 pm OR 1 pm – 3 pm.
PLEASE NOTE: Each OLLI member must sign up separately to be considered for joint attendance. Signing up for the tour does not guarantee participation. Confirmation details will be provided individually once the tour deadline has closed to let you know if you're on the tour or not.
