OLLI Building Closed Through June 30
Hello Olli members,
I hope you are staying well and safe. I also hope you are taking advantage of the OLLI programs on Zoom. We have had some excellent lectures of late, and the book groups are moving along nicely. Maybe now is the time to read that mystery or nature book and join the discussion!
The Advisory Council met last week to officially close OLLI buildings through June 30. Regardless of the actions taken by the State of Nevada or Board of Regents, OLLI at the University of Nevada, Reno needs to exercise extreme caution in re-opening buildings frequented by seniors in close proximity. In the meantime, we will continue to feature classes on Zoom, YouTube and other electronic media.
Also, we decided, with counsel from the organizers, to cancel OLLI tours, the annual campout and the summer picnic. I promise OLLI will make up for the lapse in social activities in the future. The annual business meeting, where we hold elections, will be rescheduled to September on a date not yet determined.
One last thing: OLLI at the University of Nevada, Reno is NOT producing a fall catalog describing programs from July 1 to Dec. 31 because of the uncertainties surrounding the coronavirus pandemic. We don’t know how long the current quarantine will last, and we don’t know if there will be a second wave of the virus in the fall. Until there is a vaccine, we need to be very careful about our members’ health. Instead of a catalog, we will use a different format that will rely primarily on electronic transmission to let members know what is happening and what programs will be on Zoom.
The Advisory Council is meeting often via Zoom. Let me know if you have concerns. Email me or send me your telephone number if you want to talk. The council knows this is a difficult time for many, and we will keep you informed as we know more. I can’t wait until this is all over, and we can meet again to listen, learn and celebrate.
